What do the rest of you guys in this FM tribe think of the downtown Fargo proposed Cityscapes? I've seen the revised architectural plans just released this week which made modifications so it would be better integrated with the rest of historic downtown, as well as integrating existing historical buildings, and I like it better now. I think it's a good idea myself, but many hate it.

Re: Cityscapes
Sun, March 27, 2005 - 10:40 PMI think that's the coolest thing ever. It makes me very sad to think of downtown Fargo disappearing. It's time for a Renaissance.
Woo Hoo!

Tue, May 3, 2005 - 12:03 PMSo did everyone go vote on the issue today? -

Re: Cityscapes
Wed, May 11, 2005 - 4:53 PMI voted on May 3rd, one of only a very small percentage of those that could. Very sad to see it fail. I just hope something as incredible comes out of this eventually. I personally think too many in Fargo are too scared to risk and really dream... -

Re: Cityscapes
Wed, May 11, 2005 - 7:20 PMMy feeling was that they rushed it too much (so that people couldn't get a good look at it)...but they also seemed to be using it as a front for a hockey arena. That was really what killed it, in my mind. I think they should have known better after the last vote on the issue.
Maybe next time they'll give us more time, though. I know a lot of people didn't even realize there was an election...

Re: Cityscapes
Thu, May 12, 2005 - 12:01 PMunfortunately i moved from Fargo to the Glyndon area about a year ago...but if i had been able to vote I would have voted no.
About the last thing Fargo needs is yet another large sports/concert venue. We have two that sit empty enough as it is, do we really need another place for touring bands NOT to come play at?
As far as the hockey part, all I ever hear is that Fargo needs more practice rinks and didn't we vote down a hockey addition to the dome a few years ago?
If Fargo truly wants to raise it's worth and be the trendy city it wishes to be downtown would be much better served with some sort of performing arts center. I'm sure the office space and condos would have been great, but build them on top of a performing arts center. Fargo is not the Twin Cities and the existing downtown businesses wouldn't benefit that much from a sporting arena.
But what do I know, I moved to Glyndon?
